James Wraith has been advising and representing national insurers on coverage issues for over 30 years. He handles complex and high exposure claims under standard form and broker-manuscript insurance contracts, including primary, umbrella, excess and surplus lines. He provides strategic evaluation and management of complex claims under property policies (including builder’s risk, boiler and machinery, difference in condition), personal and commercial general liability, and “claims made and reported” professional liability policies. Mr. Wraith has extensive experience handling multi-layer, multi-insurer insurance programs including UK and Bermuda market insurers.
He renders coverage opinions and defends national insurers in state and federal court on claims throughout the western states with emphasis in California, and handles inter-insurer claims having secured recoveries exceeding $35 million. Mr. Wraith also defends insurance professionals including brokers, adjusters, and managing agents against professional liability claims.
As an outgrowth of his inland marine insurance coverage practice, Mr. Wraith has developed expertise in defending cargo liability claims involving motor truck carriers, air carriers, and warehouse entities, as well as prosecuting cargo subrogation claims.
